Covid Hood for the Greater Good
NON-INVASIVE VENTILATION FOR EMERGENCY CARE
In April of 2020, Israeli hospitals began deploying non-invasive ventilation (NIV) hoods developed by Tamar Robotics founded by serial entrepreneur Technion Prof. Moshe Shoham of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The novel protective patient hood prevents the spread of COVID-19 and protects medical teams when applying non-invasive ventilation therapy for COVID-19 patients. Called NIV Greenhouse™, the product is a user-friendly personal patient hood connected to a standard clean room filter. The NIV Greenhouse™ enables the use of non-invasive ventilation such as CPAP and BiPAP devices in COVID-19 treatment which was previously deemed too risky for medical staff due to the potential for the spread of contagious disease from the patient’s breath.
